Fritchley Church of England (Aided) Primary & Nursery School

We like to create as many opportunities as possible to enrich the curriculum. This may be whole school theme days, days out in the local area or further afield, visits or visitors. We are very lucky to be part of the Wider Opportunities Music Partnership which delivers music lessons for the children in Year 3 and 4. In recent year, the children have learned to play the violin, ukulele, djembe and samba drums. This year they are learning to play brass instruments. This is part of the curriculum for which there is no additional charge.

If you would like your child to learn to play another instrument whilst at school, we can offer tutors in the piano, guitar and cello. Please see Mrs Smith in the school office for more details and prices.

Extra-curricular activities

We are fortunate to be able to offer a wide range of extra curricular and enrichment activities for the children to enjoy.

After school and lunchtime clubs differ from term to term however the following run throughout the school year

School Council

Children elect a representative to attend a monthly meeting where the councillors share ideas and concerns raised by other children. These are then the basis of new decisions made in school.

Eco Council

Volunteers come together to work out ways in which the school can be more eco friendly. They monitor energy use, recycling and composting.

We currently hold Eco Schools Bronze Award.

Worship Team

A group of children work together to plan and lead our Friday celebration worship. They present certificates, share news, lead songs and celebrate alongside each other.

Code Club

Children in Key Stage 2 take part in activities where they learn to create games and animations using computer coding. This is a Star Club providing training and support for other Code Clubs across the East Midlands.

DCFC in the Community

These coaching sessions are led by coaches from Derby County in the Community. They currently run on a Thursday after school and change focus from term to term. Sports covered may be football, basketball, hockey etc.
